I was checking the prices of cameras locally and was shocked to see that the 6D body is actually priced higher than the 5DIII. Is that possible? I have the 5DIII and think it is the by far the best camera I have ever bought and I have bought a LOT of cameras in the last 40 years!

I don't know where "locally" is but here in Australia there is a $1200 - $1500 price difference (5DIII more expensive).

Yeah, you got something mixed up. There's always at least a $1k difference.

Has to the a mistake. What were the two prices listed? Even a 6D with kit is less than the 5D III body.
In Japan the 6D body is $1,500 and the 5DIII body is $2900. Very happy with my 6D and prime lens choice.

6D should be at least $1000 cheaper. Either the 6D is way over priced or you found a deal on a 5D3 you need to take advantage of fast.

No, I never claimed to be outstanding in the field of photography. I said I was out standing in the field taking photos.

Or, more likely, he found a deal on a 5DIII which is from a bait and switch operation and shouldn't be touched with a ten foot barge pole.

More likely though, the OP has made a mistake or seen a mistake ( a typo probably ) by someone else. Maybe seen a mkII mislabelled or read it as mkIII.

Spear, is this price difference just at one dealer or do you see the same prices across a number of dealers?

Well I guess there is always that.

I try not to assume everything is a scam but maybe I should. If it is too good to be true it usually is but sometimes I just wish I could find a really good sale.

I am going with the most like scenario being that the prices were mixed up.

If you got the 5D3 through the five finger discount then, yes, the 6D is more expensive. ;)

When I see those $2399 deals on the 5D III, is that what you are talking about? They claim it is Brand new in the box.

I don't know how that price is, as I am in the UK and don't know what the normal US price is.

However, Ryther have been discussed before in the forums and going by reviews they are typical bait and switch. You will likely be asked to pay more for a US version of the camera, a "better" battery, etc. etc. If you choose not to upgrade, your order will go on the backburner and you will be fed excuses as to why it hasn't been sent yet.

Either you pay for all the upgrades (which will take the price higher than you would pay at a decent store) or you don't get your order fulfilled and will have to fight to cancel your order and get a refund.

Yes, here in the USA we have the saying, "If it is looks good to be true, it probably isn't". So I never jumped on one of those deals.

I asked the same question of that retailer, and Teamspeed (who seems to have a pretty good handle on this stuff) says,Be careful of that retailer, and I've head if from a few others too. I've never deal t with them, but would sure do some homework first....
