In reference to this: http://www.luminous-landscape.com …ameras/hartblei-cam.shtml (external link)

Has anyone ever come across anything else that suggests compatibility of this lens with medium format, specifically film bodies?

Been wanting to get into medium format film, and if I could find any information about using this lens I'd stop putting it off immediately!

Any lens desiged for 35mm format (or smaller,) will not work well on medium format.

tilt shift lenses are different though. somewhere in the light path an image circle has to be produced bigger than needed for 35mm to allow for shifting. i think whether it works on medium format would ultimately come down to whether this larger image circle makes its way down to the sensor. right?

There are T/S medium and large format lenses already, you know.

Thanks chief. I know. I already own a T/S with a large image circle, and I also have a budget. Thus, the point of this thread.

Here's a hands on review with the H-Cam. I thought about it but went the tech cam route. :) Although, it is a nice option to utilize your TS lenses.

PS, that dude was painful to watch

The Canon FD 400mm/2.8 and likely the FD 300/2.8 as well would work well with 6x6cm medium format - got this from my DIY speed booster (external link) work.
35mm format shift lenses will have a large image circle - but not sure for which film format.

No problem. I agree about the dude. ;)Although, you get to see the H Cam in action with the 24 TS-E II and Nikon 14-24. It's clear that medium format with that set up isn't very speedy. :)

Just google for image circle diameter and the lens name. E.g., for 24mm TS-E the image circle is 67.2mm across (http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/24mm-tse-ii.htm (external link)) - I guess it should work for some medium formats, like 6x4.5cm - the diagonal is 7.5cm, so you will see some black corners.

But the principal difficulty is the register distance, which for medium format film cameras appear to be much larger than for FF camera - 70-80mm (http://allphotolenses.com/articles/item/c_6.html (external link)), whereas Canon EF lens needs 44mm or less.

6D (normal), 6D (full spectrum), Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC, 135L, 70-200 f4L, 50mm f1.8 STM, Samyang 8mm fisheye, home studio, Fast Stacker

Larger mirror in medium format SLR = larger register distance.
Medium format SLR and TSE 24 most likely do not work, or not easy (lens mount away, mirror shaving on camera). Something without mirror needed, probably Arca-Swiss Rm3d or such with film back.

Ahhh...

It's like a light switch just went on - now I understand why it won't work. I'm grateful to you two gents for sharing. Looks like I'll just invest in MF film the usual way.

The problem is NOT merely the size of the image circle. The Canon TSE also is designed with a mount-to-sensor distance which is too short to allow the lens to be mounted on the thicker medium format body, while permitting infinity focus. You would be limted to extremely short focus distances only!

Only a problem with SLR cameras, with medium format cameras like the Arca-Swiss Rm3d register distance is no big deal.
