Hello
First I'm not much of a sports shooter but my daughter started praying soccer so I did some last season and gave them to yhe parents. I have a 5d, 40d, 200 2.8L , 85 1.8.
I was thinking about the 80-200 2.8 (drainpipe).
Any opinions on this for sports? Or buy another 40 or 60d and use the 200 2.8 on one and the 85 1.8 on the other?

I've had your combination before: 40D + Drainpipe. It worked pretty well. Daylight and at thsoe shutterspeeds, you don't need IS. Sometimes, I wished I had the reach of a 70-300 though. Pricier.

At our local soccer matches, we can walk the sidelines. I've found that a wider zoom on one body and a long one on the other is more convenient, but that's me. You're not considering a wider focal length, so I suppose the 85 to 200 range is all you need? If so, then the convenience of the zoom should be worth getting the Drainpipe... it's tough shooting soccer with prime lenses.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Thanks
Never really thought about the wider zoom. I do have a 28-70 2.8 Sigma could try it on the 5d.

Young kids will look good on a crop body with up to 200mm. As they get older the field gets larger so you might want more reach.

Back in the day, I shot soccer with a Sigma 70-200 2.8 with good results on my 1D-MKII. Yeah I know, old stuff. It wasn't then though. :) I'm thinking about getting beck in the game a bit now that I'm fully retired. Here's a shot or two I took with the above combination.
