I have been contacted by a local landscaping company in regards to creating a portfolio for flower beds, and yards, commercial and residental, they maintain, to present to her potential clients. I am not concerned with being able to handle the task. My concern is how much do I charge for this type of end product. I have not dealt with a commercial client before, so I would think the scope could exceed what i typically do for "photoshoots", merely because my work would in essence be the base of her expounding on future projects. I'm sorta caught on whether or not i should do things by the individual image, or by the portfolio as a whole.

What exactly is the end product ? Is it a web-based gallery ? On the front page ? Is this destined for print ? What rights will the company have in terms of using your images ?

For me--and I don't do that much commercial stuff--there are two main variables--1) actual time spent on the job 2) usage rights--how the resultant images will be used by the client. When thinking about (2), consider including multiple pricing options depending on use (perpetual ? Full page ? Print ?) so that the client has a way to wiggle if their budget isn't quite there.

"Sure, let's talk. Did you have a budget in mind, and how many different locations you'd like to show off?"

At this stage. My understanding is a print portfolio to present to her clients. As well as her website use. I've never felt with licensing and rights to images for commercial settings.

Nathan, I may just try that route. And see where that gets me, if I cannot come to a conclusion. I've got until spring to get myself sorted, just trying to get a headstart
