Hey everyone, I recently sent in my 1DX for warranty repair because it was having the "oil issue". They replaced the focus screen. I noticed it was replaced with the "EC-CV" focus screen. Reading online, it looks like this is meant for macro photography; is this correct? Is it going to cause problems for me? I don't shoot any macro. Also, they shipped it back to me with a filthy sensor and some hair/dust spot in the viewfinder. I was able to gently blow out some of them. Think I should contact them and send it back, or just live with it?

Cheers

EC-CV is the default focusing screen. At least according to this article from Canon -> http://www.learn.usa.canon.com …eable_focus_screens.shtml (external link)

Contact them . It is unacceptable to do work like that.

Thanks for the link. Every other site I've seen says something along the lines of "The EC-CV replaces the standard focus screen for the 1DX." I guess they're wrong.

As far as the dust/hair issue; I just sent them an email to have it cleaned. It's very frustrating, and quite ridiculous that they would send it back in this condition!

Cheers

I couldn't agree more. Let us know how it turns out.

Where did you send it for service?

It was sent into Canon Canada (Mississauga center.) After using a rocket blower a couple more times on the focus screen, I've been able to remove most of the dust/hair. Just 2 small ones left that aren't bad. I've decided not to send it in. It's too much hassle, time and money (especially if I insure shipping.) I'll just clean the sensor myself. I did however send them another email explaining how dissatisfied I am with their service. Mofos :o

I have another question: during warranty repair, the "FP PCB Assembly" was replaced. What is this for?
