I started photography less then two years ago as a hobby and didn't know anything about anything. I knew how to take a picture with my cell phone and my point and shoot camera. And now...I have pictures published in a russian fitness magazine called Iron World. It's basically their version of Flex or Muscle and fitness magazines, so as you guys can guess I'm on cloud nine. This is for the January issue and I have another set coming up in the February issue.

Article is about training your biceps, in case any of you were wondering. LOL.

This is it. I couldn't get to the actual page even with using the translate page so this all I have at the moment.

I remember when I first got some work published. I was thrilled! Then when I would tell friends and family members, the question everyone asked, immediately, was, "How much did they pay you for that?" My response was, "well, nothing." Then, to a man, they would reply, "You mean you just gave your work away for nothing?" As if they couldn't believe I would do that. It didn't make any sense to them. They couldn't understand it. I soon began to see their perspective, and have not given anything away for free since.

If it gives you a good feeling inside, and that's enough to make you satisfied, then I suppose that's good enough, and worthy of congratulations. So, congrats!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Why would they pay for the next one if you already set the value of your work at zero?

Thank you. :) we all have to start from somewhere, so the first freebee is not a big deal. :)

Because they want me to shoot for them regularly. We are even talking about an eight page feature for March. And second this is a legit magazine who doesn't wanna be sued by the photographer for publishing his work without paying him.

If you are taking on assignments I sincerely hope you have more than just a 6D. Back up is a must. And if you depend on flash I hope you have more than just one portable flash.

Please tell me you will be getting paid appropriately for the 8 page layout?

Funny you mentioned extra body...I actually just sold my 60D because it was in my bag collecting dust for the last couple of months. I'm thinking about picking up a lightly used 7D as a back up or I can get another 6D. And I do have two extra yungnuo 560 II and several triggers.

And yes I am asking what I think is fair for the amount of work I'll be putting in. :)

Day rate + all expenses + usage is my advice. BACKUP is key. Rent if you don't have it. But equipment never fails to to fail when there is no backup. And when it's a clients time then OH MY CAMERA JUST FROZE or I dropped it is just not an excuse you will probably be able to recover from. It's a small world out there and word gets around really fast.

That is awesome that they want to use you for a big upcoming shoot.

I do recommend that you write a contract for this assignment, and that you do not do a lick of work until they sign the contract. Otherwise, you risk doing something for them without getting compensated appropriately.

If they sign the contract and agree to pay you fair value, then you know that they respect both you and your work, and are not just using you.
