I am looking for a small, light tripod to use with a point and shoot (G16 or G1X) for a Europe trip. Small enough to fit in a small backpack.
Any recommendations?
Anyone used the Gorilla brand before?

Thanks in advance.

Probably not to much. Just for the point and shoot. Have a larger Manfrotto for home use.

Thanks but these are way too big. Just need something small to sit on a table or wall. Will only be used for a point and shoot.

Used a Velbon tabletop tripod to travel through Australia. Great fit in any pack.

I have a Gitzo G0012 Mark 2 which is great for travel, sadly appears discontinued!

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I actually just went through this decision before a cruise earlier this month. I wanted something in could slip in a camera bag and have ready, but not have to lug around on tours (while also keeping up with my 3 year old daughter).

I ended up with this...

http://www.amazon.com …manfrotto+tabletop+tripod (external link)

It's amazingly sturdy for such a tiny little tripod. It's metal, with a little cork foot on each leg so it's non-scratch and non-skid. It doesn't come with a head (they sell one that does), but can be easily screwed onto a point and shoot without one. I ended up borrowing the Markins Q3T from my Gitzo Traveler CF tripod and used it with my 5D Mark III + 24-105L or 17-35L mostly. I ended up using it in places I could have never used a traditional tripod, like sitting it on some rather wide and flat handrails on the ship, ping pong tables, etc.

I considered a gorillapod, but didn't think I'd use it enough to spend the money on the SLR model. The one I was going to need was also considerably larger than the Manfrotto model I ended up with. For a P&S, that may not be much of an issue.

How about this one?

When folded, you can use it as a steady handle when panning while videotaping

Strong enough to handle 5D3 with 100-400L but small enough to just tuck in your pocket

Pedco UltraPod II. Just got it for xmas, awesome and very well balanced ... even with a gripped T3i. I also like the velcro wrap for vertical mounts. A deal for less than $20. It's some type of polymer, not cheapo plastic.

this is pretty tiny (will fit in a small bag) and can still be used as a full size (or at least close) tripod.
