The game will last 7 days and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions at any time. This is a good competition for learning new methods, so let's make it a bit more dynamic. I will be judging edits, not comments. Feel free to comment on the original image as well.
If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #506".

Submissions end, Friday, February 7th, 2014 at midnight (CST) and a winner will be announced.

If you knew me, you'd know the picture was gonna be a motorcycle lol. Have fun with this one, I've edited both color and B&W copies of this and I'm really excited to see what everyone else does.

New Paint job?

IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/BA_Harley_506.jpg

Just grabbed the .jpg from here.
Duplicated, inverted, Used Layer styles, blend mode Hue 50% opacity, turn off the red and green channels and used the Blend If sliders on the underlying layer.
Made 4 copies of the inverted layer.
Grouped the inverted layers and used a group mask.
Added a Hue/Saturation layer to very slightly reduce saturation of Reds and yellows, masked parts back in.
Flattened, duplicated, set duplicate in Overlay and masked parts out.
Resized to 1024 on the long side.

Night time.
Mask out background. Drop in San Fransisco night shot. Play with color tones/WB on bikes to match background. Adjust exposure and darken (paint brush black at 30 or so opac) specific areas to kind of blend lighting. Destructively control shift E the entire image and adjust saturation/hue to my liking.

Alright gang. Got back from my brothers wedding a few hours ago and can't stop editing the 1000 photos I took tonight so I may as well just throw this on the pile too :)

I love this game, I can pick up something from every edit.

SarahJane- Your is most like what I did myself. Typically I like a nice clean edit that enhances the original photo. Great work.
Krottski- Awesome B&W. Did you add light flares to the two mirrors? Nice subtle touch.
frenchfx- This one, although the edited in background was done cleanly is easy to spot as a fake...Harley guys would never ride on grass!! lol
Douglas- I like the color adjustment. It's bold but not unbelievable.
NigelD- Another good B&W conversion and I like the crop, you kept a good line leading to the top right of the photo.
Dawicka- What to say? You take PS to a new level, you are lightyears beyond me. Getting the luminance to match between the two components is just black magic as far as I'm concerned.

And the gold goes to....Dawicka!!!! Well done sir.

Awesome edits everyone and congrats Dawicka2!

Thanks!

I really enjoy this comp too, rsharp.
Great opportunity for learning and honing the pshop/lightroom/dpp skills... It amazes me every week how the final results are so different, but still work with the image.
Image 507 will be up shortly.

Congrats Dawicka! - That was a very convincing PS. The devil is in the detail and you obviously took some extra steps that made it work even better.

I spent a couple hours on a PS edit for this one with a different background but then thought that maybe we were starting to drift away from the original intent of the "before and after" competition, so I just stuck with only editing what was originally there.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with for the #507
