If you watch the Fredmiranda review section you see they reviewed only 5 Tokina primes and 20 zooms.
The other brands produce on average 50 and 40 (Tamron is probably not up to date, I guess they have recently more lenses without reviews yet).

I think Tokina a great brand with good potential, but they need to get more in the market with the competitors.
Strange that they don't release any classic portrait primes, or the classic 24-35-50-85-135 primes.

I don't quiet understand the strategy of this company, although their 16-28 2.8 is my best UWA zoom for urbextrips :)

Have you mix up Tokina and Tamron in your post?

I believe the last bunch of designs were co-produced with Pentax, so it would've been what Pentax wanted to add to their lineup I'd say.

Without having any idea of the actual numbers, I would guess that the market for zooms is double that for prime lenses. Probably a good marketing strategy to serve a market with high demand.

Good question. I have the 11-16mm 2.8, and I love the quality of their lenses, but their lens lineup is sparse and bizarre. About 5 years ago, they released a 35mm 2.8 macro lens, which in itself is a strange offering. When it was released, there was no publicity about the lens. Even today, most people aren't even aware such a lens exists. It's like their marketing department is sleeping.
