I need to supplement my 3 canon 580 exii's and 430 dxii. I don't want to spend $450 for the 600 ex. Can anyone suggest a great flash under $250 that has a flashlight sensor as I do not want to buy additional pocket wizards?

A digital slave flash (external link), perhaps?

how about Nissin Di700? quad-sync, lots of power, easy to control, external power connector : Nissin Di700 (external link)

if you are fine with manual-only flash, LumoPro LP180 (external link) is an even cheaper alternative:

So are you just looking for a simple optical slave (manual only)?

Of so the yongnuo 560 is a very nice and cheap option. Other are lumopro, the new v850 from godox (also sold under the cheetah and neewer brands), as well as many others.

I second the Yongnuo YN-560 II Speedlight Flash

$59.00 on Amazon. I have 6 of these and I love them.
I'm amazed with the way the slave fire works. I've had them fire in different rooms in a corner far from line of site of the trigger flash.

These are the best...
Manual settings go from 1/128 to 1.
They have a chime that tells you when it's cycled full again.
I have a 580EXII and I reach for the YN first out of the bag.
