Using Manual lenses

I hope this is the right section to post about this. I am considering buying a used Nikon manual focus 300 2.8. I use a Canon 5d Mark II and currently use only Canon EF lenses. Anyone have experience with this lens or other manual focus Nikon lenses on a Canon body?

I have a nikon 55mm f1.2 that i use on my t2i all the time. I used a 10 dollar ebay adaptor and am running magic lantern with focus peaking. Works great.

Now.. On your full frame, i am not sure if there will be mirror clearance issues with your particular lens. Tracking any moving subject would also not be fun at 2.8

Nikon lenses fit with canon no problem, but you will need to get a canon chip to use wit it as well for correct metering, etc.
How old the lens is determines how the aperture is controlled. Sold old lens and manual apertture as well.
Usually the canon EOD will display 0 or the widest setting for the f number. Your exif data may not match up with your manual selection.

It will work without any issues, ironically Nikon lenses adapt quite well to Canon EF mount and telephoto lenses don't run any risk of interfering with the mirror.

I would also highly recommend picking up a EG-S focus screen ($35 on Amazon and takes seconds to install) to aid with manually focusing. It made a huge difference for me. As you can see by my sig, I shoot almost exclusively with MF glass

Yes the EG-S screen is a great help. I got nothing but 2.8 and faster glass as well. Do get the screen.

I use converted Canon FD 300/2.8 and 400/2.8 lenses on my EOS 5D classic.
Cause I have the EE-S screen in, I am not sure, but I suppose for f/2.8 and slower lenses the EE-S screen is not so much help. For fast lenses faster f/2.8 EE-S is more useful, and for f/1.2-1.4 lenses it is extreme helpful. The same for the EG-S as well.

I do sometimes take images of moving objects with those lenses. It is not easy, but at least your focus is not bewildert from tree branches in the foreground and such.

I've had great experiences with the contax zeiss lenses. I you have one, make sure the lens is properly cleaned and set to stop at infinity. The other issue is you want a good adapter. The best one I've used is the happypagehk adapter with the optix v6/v5 chipset. It locks perfectly, focuses to infinity perfectly, and you don't experience any mirror clearance issues (on the 6d at least)
I have tried generic adapters, fotodiox adapters, and the best one by far was the happypagehk adapter (I did a lot of research on this before my purchase.. around $80 on ebay)

You can either focus manually with liveview or the optix chipset, which has a very accurate focus alert

The EG-S screen will work in the 5DII and in the 6D (there's even a menu in the 6D to change your metering to account for the EG-S screen). It takes less than a minute to install, definitely worth it imo.

I agree. The biggest improvement was the installation of the EG-S Screen. I've also had some good results when using Focus Trap in Magic Lantern when the lens is used with a confirmation chip adapter.

I have not tried Magic Lantern, I thought the build was not stable for the 6D

How can you tell if a lens will have mirror interference? Are adapted Pentax M42 screw mount lenses generally safe on a 70D & 6D? Don't want to find out after it is too late!
