Same here, I like the image, but I agree with Madjackdog. It makes me appreciate the image even more when the photographer takes the time to actually tell you about the subject, like what town/village its in, a brief history, how it got that way, etc. instead of the basic 'Here, I took this, what do you think?'

I don't mean this to be aimed at you personally Liquid Dark, I assure you. With a world-wide forum like POTN and so many members all over this great planet, there is such an awesome variety of images of places, people, and things that go through these forums, yet receive little or no responses because the member didn't take any time to explain the subject of the photo, where it was taken, or why he/she took it. Many members don't have even have their country listed in their profile, so we often don't have a clue what country an image was taken. I can appreciate a photo even more (that's just me, but I can bet there are others) knowing what part of the world the photo was taken and why the photographer took it.

I have seen some photos on here that were truly amazing, yet I have no clue where they were taken. Could have been an hour or two drive from me, or half way around the planet. I didn't mean to hijack your thread, its just that over the last couple of years here I often find myself wondering where a photo was taken and would have liked to know a little about it. I have Googled many posts where the photographer gave some information about the subject/area to find out more information because they intrigued me so much. One example, I never realized that Iceland was such a beautiful country. I had no idea! But thanks to the images from a couple of photographers on here, I will be going there some day.

thanks Firemike!

always enjoy that too, know what you mean

here is link to Google Map that I created to show the exact location

This Church was built in the old days of Miramar Beach, FL, for the fishermen and other locals. It was not yet a resort town because it was isolated. If you look at the map you will see a large bay to the north and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. People that came from the east or west would just stop at other locations that were closer along the way, not Miramar and Destin in the middle and therefore the longest drive. There were no grocery stores or other such convienances, it was a hard scrabble life for generations.

Destin, FL (http://www.cityofdestin.com/ (external link)) became known as the "World's luckiest fishing village" due to a quirk in the continental shelf that brought deep water very close to the coast, making for great fishing (https://mapsengine.google.com …zevOwZepQG7A.kQN3RdExmHeA (external link) ).

It's fame grew and grew, but Miramar Beach its neighbor remained largely unchanged until the completion of the Mid-Bay bridge (you can see it on the map) which made everything on the Hwy 98 corridor more accessible and brought business and vacationers and retirees.
they made bigger and more modern Churches and this one fell into disrepair and was later abandoned.
The land this sits on is now worth a fortune

I vacationed here as a child in the 60's and 70's
moved here permanently in the early 90's
bought my house from a Detroit police office (Bruce McDonald) and his wife Lisa (Asst DA) would be funny if you knew them ;)

this is the last great place to live, everyone should visit, it is special
if you do let me know
