hey guys, I just ordered a 17-40L to use with my 7D. I am planning to upgrade to FF soon, hence my question. Does the 5D MKIII outresolve the 17-40L ? Thanks

The 5D2 has the same resolution as the 20/30D. The 5D3 has slightly more than that - between the 30D and the 40D. 22 MP on a full frame sensor is medium resolution, not high rez. Much less than the 7D. A FF sensor with the same pixel density as the 7D would be 46 MP.

just received my lens today. Serial number is UB0918, to my understanding, this was manufactured September 2013 ?

Also it looks used because. Both caps have too many scratches and lots of dust inside and out. Also the hood has lots of scratces, it even has what looks to me like a dog's hair on it. WTF is amazon doing? Do they sell returned items as new??? I'm really not happy now.

I think a 5DC outresolves the 17-40L once you get anywhere near the edges/corners.

Canon's UWA "selection" for full-frame is one of the main reasons I just switched to Nikon. Don't set your hopes too high.

The 20D is an 8MP camera. The 5D2 is a 22MP camera. They aren't even close.

Amazon has pretty incredible customer service, reach out to them and tell them exactly this and they should take care of you!

he's referring to pixel density.

A look at the MTF charts will show you how much Canons UWA zooms fall off in the corners. Right now the Nikon 14-24 beats everything Canon has in that range.

I have used Canon since 1990's and am used to the ergonomics of the camera bodies. I have a few friends who also have nikons and I can't get used to them. I also have a few canon lenses and flash etc so it is difficult for me to switch. The nikons feel awkward to me. It's like holding a Glock when you are used to Springfield XDM....

I got my replacement lens today. It is a few months older than the first one but it looks new. It has a Canon center pinch cap. Time to test it....
