Dumb question on 60D and Canon 580EX ... control from camera?

I say dumb because I can mount it and check, but I am on a buisness trip for 10-days and the camera and flash are back home.

I have a new (to me-used) 60D and my original Canon 580EX flash unit (NOT the newer EX-II).

The 60D can control a hotshoe-mounted flash from the 3" screen using the camera controls. This would be a boon to me as I use reading glasses and the camera screen is much better than the flash screen to see.

I have seen conflicting reports, some say it will only control the newer 580EX-II flash units or later, some say it will control the 580EX Mark I older model like I have.

Anyone know? It's becoming increasingly harder to find resources on the old 580EX it's all about the 580EX-II now. If nobody knows I'll just play with the gear when I get home.

Thanks!

With the flash mounted on the 60D the 580EX II version can be controlled from the flash menu but the 580EX cannot except to adjust FEC. That was one of the upgrades of the ver II to work with newer DSLRs that have the expanded flash control menus.

Dagnabbit! I was hoping that was not the case. Thanks, though! I'll just have to keep using the back panel on the flash I guess.
