Looking for the real thing for a serious project. What is a great camcorder for football practice and sponsor type videos? I need something professional with a budget between $2,000-and 3,000. Would I want a slr? Or straight up video camcorder? These are confusing things to think about and try and deal with. so many options and not enough knowledge of what is great.

You are going to have to be much more specific about the types of filming and final videos you want to create to get solid recomendations. For example:

Are you shooting football videos from the sidelines?
Do you need to record interviews and clear voices?
Will you need video lighting and audio recording?
How will you edit the videos?

A DSLR has the potential to make fantastic image quality compared to a similarly-priced camcorder, but a DSLR is a lot more work to use. There's no (reliable) autofocus for DSLR video, and without a bunch of expensive and bulky accessories, the ergonomics are terrible for shooting video.

If you have a bunch of out-of-focus, shaky video, "image quality" goes right out the window.

The problem with using a DSLR for sports is the shallow depth of field and difficulty maintaining focus. I'd probably choose something like a 1/3" video camera. If you'll be filming in inclement weather there is a Sony camera that is water resistant. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …X70_Compact_Dust_and.html (external link) - buy a decent video tripod and head like a Miller or Sachtler.
