Inspired by Alexey Kljatov (external link), I took some shots of my own last night.

I'll post a pic of my setup the next time I take some shots. It's my 50 1.4 reverse mounted to two 58mm UV filters, a 58mm reverse ring mount and a 12mm extension tube. This is on my 60D.

I caught the flakes on an old dorm room glass side table and took it into my detached garage. With my grip head on my tripod, I pointed it almost straight down but left enough of an angle to catch some light on the edges of the snowflake.

I really like Alexey's work, jadedpony, and you are close on his heels with that set. Well done!

Very nice. Well done. It must have been hard working under those temperatures so as not to melt the flakes.

Thanks Ray! I can only improve from here. No image stacking yet. Maybe next time.

OG, It actually wasn't too bad. I took these after clearing my driveway. I was in my garage so I was shielded from the wind. However I did have to give in, since my hands started to freeze, before I could take some on my wool hat (which I had planned on doing after using the glass table).

Very nice! I tried and failed last night and tonight to get some snow flake photos. One of these days I'll figure it out!

Luckily this was my first attempt and they came out pretty close to what I had envisioned so all of that time reading Alexey's write-ups and other threads here was not a waste :p

Also, I was too much of a wimp to brave the cold and try again last night so you have one up on me there ;)

Two UV filters? Trying to push up that magnification just a little bit more huh? ADDICT! haha. These are great snowflakes, and for your first attempt...you should be very happy.
