Would you pay $120 for Amazon prime?

Personally I would not renew my prime membership if the price jumped by $40. Brick and mortar retailers such as Best Buy are getting a lot better about price matching Amazon and other online retailers (B&H, Adorama, etc.) offer free shipping on many items. The two-day shipping is a nice convenience but I can't say it'd really be worth that high of a "membership fee" for my needs. The "additional services" offered, such as free Kindle books and really old movies available to stream, don't really appeal to me at all.

I'd really consider dropping the service. I do use the video, but Netflix is a similar option.

Wifey and I are debating this now. We order a ton of stuff from Amazon, so we may renew. We'll see if it really jumps by that much. I just got a note from them saying my Prime will auto-renew at $79, so I may be good for another year at least at that price.

I've been an Amazon user for years, but only recently upgraded to Prime. I did it for the 2 day shipping mostly.

I upgraded on 2 January and 2 days later they announced that they were now charging tax in my state.

Zoiks!!! heh heh. My own fault. I should have researched it more.

I agree that with more and more retailers price matching with them, there is less and less reason to renew prime. Especially if they jack the price 50%.

Prime rocks, no matter what they raise the price to. Gas alone kills any savings going to BB, not to mention time. The video is just a plus. Justified is killer however.

I would... I split the cost with my g/f and I have been getting the student discount the past few years as well, so it has been something like $60-70 per year? I forget the actual rate. I have another year or two left I can get the discount. But even if $140, I would do it since I split it.

I've been a Prime member for a few years now and love it for the convenience of 2-day free shipping, hassle-free 30 day return policy, streaming video, and tax free.
A $40 hike is a bit steep to swallow, and might stop me from renewing my membership.

They eliminated $4.99 one-day shipping, now they want to raise the price 40%!!
They will lose me for sure.

With prime, I would order whenever I needed a product. With the price increase, I'll probably drop the Prime, then keep items in my cart until I have enough items to justify the shipping cost.

I used it primarily for the fast shipping and tax free...now they are charging tax so I don't buy any big ticket items any longer.

We live an hour from any major retailers (except Staples), so Amazon is where I do most of my tech and photo gear shopping. Even when they start charging tax, it'll still save on gas and time. So yeah, we'll be Prime members. I'd like to see them give you a break for multi-year subscriptions, though.

I could see Amazon upping the px say $20 for 'basic prime' [with say a cap on the number of uses per year] and possibly creating a 'platinum prime' membership [with some additional features plus unlimited use during the year]? Just my thoughts, as I like the Prime membership price point and would hate to have to drop, but would do so at that huge price increase.

This is pretty funny. My 30-day trial of Prime runs out on Saturday. Although I love the 2-day shipping, I'm not continuing with the membership. I was hoping they would lower the price (as an incentive to get me to sign) but, yeah, apparently that's not going to happen.

I didn't want to pay $79/year. No way am I going to pay even more. Sucks.

$80 maybe, $120 is too much. Got BB, Lowes, HD, Target and others within 5 miles. And Amazon prices aren't any less now a days and we pay tax in CA. So for photography stuff, B&H, Adorama, and BuyDig.
