You're a marketeer's wet dream.

Would those be the Three Marketeers?

I'm actually quite a cheap-skate. My house payment is about 15% of my monthly income because I bought a small one. Car payments are another 5% because I drive a Sentra and a paid off minivan. I save where it counts so I don't have to worry about little things like $3/mo price increases.

I've been just as happy with Amazon Prime video as I was with Netflix. There are less overall titles, but 98% of Netflix titles are garbage. Amazon at least has a handful of decent movies from the past few years. The kids selection is pretty comparable.

I do Hulu+ and Amazon and I haven't missed netflix at all.

There is one thing I agree on, sometimes I'd find movies on Amazon not available on Netflix. I guess I am just used to Neflix and getting my way around. Amazon has been implementing subtitles in recent years which I'm glad about. I guess, I'll need to give Amazon Instant Video a try. I need more reason to see $120 make my money worth for 12 months ($10/mo) in long run. At the moment, I find Amazon's asking $120 almost too steep.

In regarding consumerism, it's all about perceived value, NOT the actual dollar amount. This is a somewhat complicated concept to understand for some...

Or in some cases, necessity. Many of us simply cannot stop driving, and the oil companies know it, hence the spikes in prices.

Nah there are thousands of 'em. They have cousins. :D

I'm a cheapskate too actually. That's why I won't pay for Prime. But I also drive a paid off SUV and save everywhere I can. Prime happens to be one of those places to save.

I sold my car on Saturday though and I swear Amazon must know it because they offered me a free Prime trial...again...that same morning.

Amazon and Google know everything about all of us!!!

(no really, they pretty much do)

I guess I don't care that much about Prime costing a bit more, because I cancelled Netflix to pay for it. It's my kids' tv instead of paying for cable. I also use some of their subscription services for Kindle and bought some devices to use that. I'm kind of all in at this point.

My wife is also incapable of going to Target without buying $100 extra worth of stuff we don't need. So if she can just buy the one thing we need on Amazon, without going to the store and loading a cart, I come out WAY ahead! :)

Hah indeed. Between Facebook, Google, and Amazon we're corporate pawns. :o

I'd probably care less if I did more shopping in general. I'm buying things from Amazon now (yeah, it totally worked) as an opportunist but once the trial ends I'll go back to my normal ways of just waiting until I have $35 worth of stuff I need and being patient.

As far as Netflix, I cancelled that just to cancel it. It became a waste of 8 bucks a month not because I didn't use it but because I used it TOO MUCH. I wasted soooo much time that could otherwise have been productive to "get my money's worth" out of the service.

Still subscribing to Google Music though...I'm almost always listening to tunes. That's one I can honestly say is worth it (like your Prime membership).

I buy from Amazon out of convenience. It's not always easy in Boston to drive down the street to get what I need... and oftentimes, I don't need it right away. 2 days is reasonable for most purchases and Amazon delivers (pun intended).

Looking back at 2013, I made 72 Amazon Prime purchases. The prices on the goods were either the same or less than bricks and mortar on almost all of these items. I saved anywhere between $2 - $30. Let's say I only saved $2 on every item... that's $144 dollars saved and I didn't have to spend the time, energy and resources to go get the goods.

For me, it's worth the convenience. I don't expect to save, but I think I can at least break even.

I also share the account with my sister, so there are savings and benefits I haven't counted there either. Lastly, I sometimes make a purchase for a friend through Amazon Prime and get the benefit of earning rewards points.

Things add up and it makes sense to me.

Yes. With a little kid in the house we rarely go shopping for anything except groceries. I can guarantee that I would have spent $120 on shipping. I just wish Amazon had "House of Cards"...

I am a prime member but if it goes up to $120 I will not renew. I've noticed that often items are cheaper from other Amazon sellers including the shipping. Go to Amazon and search for Yongnuo YN-568EX II flash. It sells for $183 Prime. You can get it for $174 including shipping from another Amazon retailer. May not get it in two days though. So you pay for prime membership and they jack up the price to cover the fast shipping.

Just got the notice today that Prime will go up to $99. LOL... it was right on the tipping mark for me. Guess I'll keep it.

Same here. Just got an e-mail from Amazon. At least I'll have a year before I have to decide since I recently paid my 79 bucks.

YOU GUYS HAVE DONE IT NOW ! LOL

I got the Amazon prime Price Hike email this morning

Amazon page says theres 7 days to "lock-in" your membership price at $79

At least i've till Dec 13 but thats 2 weeks before Christmas, this means i have to renew to get Christmas sale. What a 1st world dilemma.

We are writing to provide you advance notice that the price of your Prime membership will be increasing. The annual rate will be $99 when your membership renews on December 13, 2014.

Even as fuel and transportation costs have increased, the price of Prime has remained the same for nine years. Since 2005, the number of items eligible for unlimited free Two-Day Shipping has grown from one million to over 20 million. We also added unlimited access to over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video and a selection of over 500,000 books to borrow from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library.

For more information about your Prime membership, visit our Prime membership page.

Sincerely,

The Amazon Prime Team

When I go to my Prime page it says due to a tech glitch they can't display my membership info. My membership renews in July, so I doubt they'll let me renew now at $79. But as I said in the other Amazon thread, $99 is ok with me. I use Amazon almost weekly, so I get my money's worth out of it.
