I also got the email, so Amazon Student is going up to $49 from $39. Mine will renew on the 15th still under the old price, but in 2015 it will be renewed for $49. (That's pretty much the gist of the email)

Is there anyway to add a year at $79 right now? But I admit I'll still be around when it goes to $120.

You could look under "Manage Prime Membership". I couldn't see it under mine, but it renews in 2 days anyway. I thought it went to $99 not 120?

It is going to $99, I was meaning that had it gone to $120 as the original rumor stated, I wouldn't have left.

Yep, I received my notice today that it's going to $99 when my renewal is due later this year. I'm very much considering canceling when my renewal is due.

I'm not sure if I will renew once I can't take advantage of student pricing anymore. I don't order that much these days, I compared prices on a few things I recently bought and Amazon was more expensive after adding tax, so I just got it locally.

that's a tiny increase over the year, I'll keep it. I order a lot from them and like the two day shipping.

Only if you start a new account, yes, the $79 is valid till 20th.

Student Prime is still only $49. I haven't been a student in years and they still give it to me for that price. :D

I'm still in school, but I was wondering when they would ask me to prove it .

I'm pulling the plug on it and already started shifting purchases to other vendors.

Considering I now have to pay tax with Amazon, that would be a big NO!
