Hi guys, thinking of getting a 6D because I can't afford a 5D3.

On my 7D, I can conveniently control my only one 430EXII wirelessly using the menu on the camera.

I assume this is possible on the 6D because it is a new model, but I just want to ask first because sometimes Canon likes to omit features and put it on higher end cameras.

Thank you

You need a transmitter of some sort. The flash can be controlled, and the camera has the appropriate menu system. But unlike many canon cameras the 6D doesnt have a popup flash to serve as a controller using the canon optical system so you would need either an St-E2 or a radio trigger system like the YN622c.

OP,
There is a sale on amazon for cheaper flash (90EX) which can work like master. I have seen some people buying it instead of expensive transmitter.

But it would be an inferior solution to the radio triggers for about the same price.

Go for the radio triggers, wayyy more flexibility.

Yongnuo 622c transmitters. Allow you to control the flash from the back of the camera.

Hi all, I was only looking to control a 430EXII preferably with EETL support. I have looked at the 90EX and the 622c.

I guess I need a receiver for the flash if I choose to go the 622c route ?

Yes, you will need a pair of receivers, one for the camera and one for the flash. This is a low cost solution that works really well, at least for me it does :)

I think that they (622c) come in pairs. They can serve as receivers or transmitters.

EDIT: Wow... an avalanche of responses within a minute!

If you want radio triggering and control, I've heard good things about the Yongnuo transmitters and receivers.

You also could opt for the Canon ST-E2 (or the 3rd party equivalent). This provides optical triggering and control.

An advantage to the radio triggers is more flexibility where you position the flash off camera.

An advantage to the optical trigger is that it also has focus assist that can be helpful in low light situations.

(Note: Not the ST-E3-RT, that's a radio trigger that only works with the 600EX-RT flash, so far, and it doesn't provide low light focus assist.)

The 622 has a very robust focus assist beam.

The 6D does not have a built-in flash with which to control anything. You'll need a shoe-mounted something or another. I just use one of my flashes to control the others.

Love you signature. Nice hardware.
