Hey guys....quick question.

My 100-400mm is on the fritz and needs to be sent in for servicing -- it will only focus properly from about 120-180mm.

But that's not my question. When I was getting ready to send it in, I did the customary examination of the lens. But when I went to look for the lens date code, I noticed there was nothing opposite the lens-to-body electrical connectors like all my others L's.

I bought this lens back in 2009 when I needed it for a year of shooting photos for a youth rec soccer league. I purchased it used from Adorama so perhaps that's why I may not have paid attention to this before.

I called the only person I know that has a 100-400mm, and his has the date right where I was expecting it. Maybe someone else can help me figure out what's going on.

Thanks!

This photo shows where it should be: http://www.dailycameranews.com …canon-ef-100-400-lens.jpg (external link)

If that piece is replaced by Canon during service, the new piece will not have a date code.

Yup, that's where I was expecting it....but nothing there. I was wondering if this was due to some sort of prior servicing before I bought the lens. Perhaps that explains it....thanks!

Looks like it might have had lens mount replaced?
