Model releases when shooting the same model multiple times

For those of you who are working with a single model for many shoots (be it tests or otherwise), and wanting to use the photos for whatever you need (promotional, commercial, etc), do you ask your model to sign a release every single shoot? Or do you have them sign a release once?

I am trying to figure out whether I have to get my new model friend to sign a release every time we meet up, or if there is an easier way to go about it...like a custom release that gives me permission/rights from here on out, if possible. So we dont have to sign a new release every week (because we plan to shoot a lot together for practice/portfolio). Let me know what you think, thanks.

Why not simply have one model release effective for a set period of time, say 6 months or a year? That way all the photos you take during that time period will be covered.

You don't specify your location. Privacy laws vary by state and country. Only a local lawyer can give you a complete answer on this topic. We can try to be helpful here, but at best its just a guess.

One of my older model releases mentioned 'past and present shoots in perpetuity...'
best to write what you want and have it checked/corrected by a lawyer.

I'm of the opinion that a model release written for a broad length of time would be more easily challenged than one written for a specific shooting.
While it may be a pain, I think you're better off doing one each time you shoot.
