I currently have a black & white LaserJet and whatever photos I need get sent to a lab.

However my kids are starting to have many school projects that need color printing.

What printer could you recommend that would be suitable for everyday stuff as well as an occasional photo printing (up to 8 x 10), can be calibrated more or less easily (i.e. reasonably consistent output, maybe a profile for LR), the ink isn't too expensive or hard to come by, and no known issues (e.g. a problem with clogged nozzles like my ancient Epson used to have).

Again, I am not looking for a dedicated photo printer, but rather a decent color printer that would also be useful for photos.

Thanks !

You will find an inkjet can get expensive when the kids are using it as they use up ink like there is no tomorrow so get one that you would be able to fit a CIS kit on it. Pyro's suggestion is a good one.
