Their prices seem pretty low on brand names - i was wondering if its worth buying from them or do they resort to bait and switch tactics? I couldnt get much sense from their online reviews as a lot of happy customers wouldnt bother writing one.....

They are a bait and switch. There are other threads in this forum about them.

I bought 3 7d's in 2012 from 42nd Street and ordered a 5diii last Monday from them and received it yesterday . Paid $2925.99 with USA warranty. They won't ship until they talk to you on the phone. If you know how to say no to the up sell there's no problem. 99.9% of my purchases are from B&H and I highly recommend B&H, but 42nd street has good prices on cameras.

You should also check the Canon Price Watch website for good prices and reputable dealers.

My experience with 42nd Street Photo was that they had a pushy salesman call (supposedly to verify shipping information) and then try to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need. I was really annoyed by that, once I order something online I expect them to ship what I ordered unless there's some legitimate problem, I don't have the time to be listening to a strong-arm sales pitch. I did, however, receive what I ordered.

I reported this experience on the reseller ratings website, and within just a couple of hours of posting that the pushy salesman was back on the phone with me claiming that I had misunderstood and that he'd send me a free battery for my camera if I'd edit my review.

Yep, I recall dealing with them and even others years ago, where I had to call them to complete the deal. They tried all kinds of crap, but when I was firm on what I wanted they no longer had the item. I was pretty new to internet shopping and all I saw was cheaper prices, but now I only buy from authorized dealers. Some will say they had no issues, but it's just not worth the potential hassle. Just take head.

Short story. I recall getting an car amp from one of those New York type stores where the serial number was scratch off or removed, but the unit was new. Of course my calls and questions went unanswered. It was then that I realized what these types of places were all about. Fortunately, I had no issues with the unit. Now, I only buy from authorized dealers.

Here's the link (external link). They basically give you heads up on all the deals out there on camera gear. If you are interested in something specific, you should sign up for an email alert for that item. Go to the home page for details.
