I upgraded my 24-70 2.8L (I) for the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC.
My main photography is urban exploring (only with Tokina 16-28 2.8) and this year model photography with 35L-85-135L and/or 70-200 2.8L II.
Monthly I do clubphotography (mainly with the Sigma 15 2.8 Fisheye) with slow shutterspeed + light-effects.

I upgraded from the Canon 24-70 2.8L to this Tamron for the better IQ and VC, but this isn't actually a "creative" lens which you would use a lot (definitely not for modelling).

I bought it from a party photographer and tested it once, the backward zoomring was a bit awkward.
I feel this lens will be more for family trips (for example Disneyland Paris within a few months).

Do you also think this is more a 'tourist' lens or are there any fans over here thas use 24-70's a lot (not for weddings I mean) ?
Maybe this one will be appreciated more when I use it more for partyphotography next to my fisheye.

Maybe i'm just a prime guy who appreciates creative fast price and I should sell it for 24 1.4L or upgrade my 85 1.8 again for a 85 1.2L :)
So mixed feelings about the Tamron 24-70 2.8, not for the quality but for the usuage/creativeness :)

so your question boils down to two things: what is the general utility of a 24-70 2.8 lens, and how does the tamron 24-70 2.8 VC meet those expectations.

The first part is photographer dependent of course, but without getting in to a zoom vs prime thing, the 24-70 2.8 is the bread and butter lens for many phographers. Its a great walk around range, a great landscape range, a great event range, a great portrait range, covering from environmental portraits, to head and shoulders (might be a bit short of tight head shots on full frame). It also makes an excellent video lens b/c of VC and 2.8 and useful range.

How does the tamron satisfy in those categories? will a good copy of it, is optically very good. AF is a bit slow for moving people photography and may lead to some missed shots.

I use mine alot. Sure it doesn't create that mind blowing blur you get from my primes but it's still plenty of blur to make an image look nice.

I think the 24105 is more of a tourist list due to the cheaper price, weather seal and longer reach

I m not sure how 'weather seal' the tamron is. I have the tamron and it does not look like i can shoot under little rain, which i had done many times with a 24105.
