My 14-year old son decided to enter a local rated chess tournament for the first time in 4 years. Here are some scenes from it:

Played 3 round Swiss System with G\75 time control. We were there from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. He won 2 matches and 1 draw. Picked up his first cash prize. :D

..and nice captures, by the way. I might have tried a really slow SS, see maybe motion blur moving a piece.

His USCF rating was 1236 when he was 10, and because he hasn't played any chess since then, he's still at the same rating. He should move up a bit, though, with the latest results.

I just looked him up on USCF site and turns out that was at age 9, the last time he was an active player. He was ranked top 25 in the nation when he was 8, but nowadays there seems to be a lot more kids around that age with much higher rating. After he won the state scholastic championship at 9, he quit chess because there just wasn't enough time to devote to both chess and violin. While he's still very serious about violin, he's starting to get back to playing chess just for fun.

The tighter your shot, the more I liked it.

I don't know about that. I would've used a higher SS. The motion blur is killing the shots. You've got to freeze the player.
Just kidding of course. :)
