Wedding album. Which photos and order of shots??

Title says it all folks..
Which ones do you make full size and which small?
How many in black and white??
And the number of photos used.. Thanks

Whichever suit being big or small... no rules.
However many look good as black and white.
Depends on the album size and varies wedding to wedding.

Typical layout is 2.5 imagesper page.

It all depends on the wedding. We try to keep the image count in albums around 70 to 90 photos... and around 16 to 18 spreads. We also don't have a set amount of BW that we put in the album. For the most part, everything is in color unless the lighting situation was horrid enough to need a BW conversion.

We typically use 20 leaves = 40 pages and do a layout consistent with how the day went, like a story.

We ask the couple to choose the photos they want in the album so we work with that. Here's an example that was featured by Queensberry a while back to give you an idea.

I use Zenfolio, have them share their favourites with me, I make an album from their choices and send them the invoice. As long as you structure the album chronologically, it should make sense to the client. I tell them that the # of photos / # of pages = $$ and they usually agree. I use base prices from my vendor and add the additional cost of pages + 100% of the additional cost.

(ie: 20 pages = $100. Each additional page, vendor charges me $2. 22 pages = $100 + $4(2) = $108

It is an art you need to play around with to feel it out. Just see what works good for you. We don't do it the same every time.

Let your creative side loose and just do what feels right - everyone is different.

Which album supplier are you using and what software for the layout?

The only 'rule' is that I don't mix colour and B&W on the same spread.

Some photographers ask the B&G to choose the large images. It removes some of your artistic freedom, but makes album design very quick as you're just following a set of instructions.

We use Photo Junction and Photoshop for design, and do all of our printing with PictoBooks.

We first drag a bunch of our favorites into the spreads, ignoring size and layout. We then ask for the bride's approval on photos used. Once that is done, we lay everything out using Photo Junction. Its quick and easy. After a few tweaks, we export the layouts as PSDs and do any final touch ups needed in PhotoShop.

After that, we send the JPGs off to Pictbook and have a beautiful well made album 1 to 2 weeks later.
