Auto focus low light - 50 1.4 vs 50 1.2

I was comparing the 50mm 1.4 to a 24-70 2.8 L ii last night. The 24-70 was much quicker to focus in the low light.

My question: Will the 50mm 1.2 focus much quicker than the 1.4 in low light? I haven't been able to justify the price difference, but if it can then this would certainly be a great reason to make the switch.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The 50L is even slower to focus.

The 50 1.4 is micro USM. Its not good in dim light. Mine always just hunted. The 50L will attain focus but probably a bit slower than your 24-70.

low light focusing is why i went with the L over the 1.4.

The 50L is still slow to focus. Though it may focus better. I've never had problems using the center point in low light with the 50 1.4

The 50L has alot of glass to move around.

No problems here focusing in low light using center point. Also, if using flash with AF assist, it will focus in the dark

I have not been unhappy with my 50 1.4 on my 6D. As others have stated use only center point. I also use AI Servio AF that seems to help a lot. Try shooting in 3 shot bursts with AI Servo. This has gotten me some tack sharp photos is almost no light at all, that would be impossible to post process or use an exposure method. Try to keep a fast shutter speed at f1.4 to reduce shake.
