Great shot. IMO though, she almost looks a doll, not a person.

I like this a lot. If you could work out a hair light it would be perfect!

Love the black background and red dress.
I agree with Sam... Put a few highlights in her
hair and you have a major winner.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

The lighting on her face is very nice and of an excellent quality. I would like to see a bit more fill light to get into those deep dark shadows and get some detail in them. Also power up your hair light. With black hair you need about 1 to 1/2 stops more than your combined main and fill meter reading. Lastly she has no catchlights in her eyes which makes eyes look lifeless.

Thanks for the comments - This was actually a pretty difficult shoot. She did not want to sit still and wanted to run around the studio. We finally just let her run around and followed her - shooting away.

Very nice job. Great lighting and the clothes and pose are teriffic. I agree with Sam and Maureen - needs a hairlight to separate her black hair from the background. She is precious and the red dress and ribbons suit her perfectly here. I'm not sure I like the cropping. I would try to keep her feet in the frame.

OK, based on your comment about reaction to other photos I went back and looked. You've really got to watch the bottom of your viewfinder IMO....the baby shot and the dog shot are both cropped too close at the bottom. Nice setups but just cropped badly.
