Based on actual experiences and results, the Canon 18-200mm image stabilizer lens (external link) would be a good choice. One of those lenses was used to easily gather these images.

The lens requires no mysterious or elaborate techniques. It just goes on an EF-S camera and produces good images.

The kit lens can make great photos, but does not fair well in low light.

If this purchase is predominantly for cars, as in show cars or similar, neither of these lenses would be suitable due to the field of view. You would find yourself having to be a quite a distance from the subject, probably 20 to 25 feet in most instances.

Go with something like the 18-55 kit lens or perhaps the Sigma or Tamron equivalents.

Heya,

18-135 IS STM is a great lens for this.

If you want more telephoto reach, maybe one of the 18-200's.

Very best,

Just as a note, a sharper image comes from using the lens properly.

Stop down your kit lens to F8~F11, on a tripod. You probably will not be able to see a difference in sharpness compared to a new $400 lens.

If you want a very sharp image, but at wide aperture for depth of field purposes, then a new lens will help (specifically, a prime, or wide aperture zoom of which quality, but $400 won't get you that zoom; but it will get you a prime).

Very best,

If we disregard the zoom. What lense can you suggest for a sharper image.

Are you wanting a wide angle lens for shooting cars up close, or a longer telephoto for things at a greater distance?
