Suggest a lense

If we disregard the zoom. What lense can you suggest for a sharper image.

35mm F2 IS.

Sharp wide open.
Very sharp stopped down.
The IS is 4-stops of stabilization.

The field of view on a crop is great. Lets you get right up close for a car, and also lets you back up and do more interesting compositions to fit multiple cards. It's going to work in tight spaces and large spaces. Long focal length will only really work from a distance.

You can also look at:

Canon EF 40mm F2.8
Used Canon EF 24-105 F4L
Used Canon EF-S 17-55 F2.8

40 2.8 is a nice little lens.....I shot this yesterday with it inside all Natural light. Hands are blurry because of movement not the lens's sharpness. Focal point was at my sons face

I prefer up close when shooting cars.


On a side note any suggestion to achieve a sharper image? Given that im using a canon xsi.

Heya,

Closer, means wider angle. So shorter focal length. Go 35mm and below.

To make an image sharper, stop aperture down to F8 to F11, use a tripod, and faster shutter speeds. Good light goes a long way.

Shoot more and see what yeilds better results. @ 400$ just see what you can get

Why not get a few? Snag a 40 2.8 and then get a 18-135/28-135/18-200 or something on here?
Kit lenses and Non "L" glass can yeild sharp images. Usually have to find the sweet spot and stop it down a bit.....Try shooting at F8-11 like people have said.

I took a pic at my brothers wedding with my 18-55 kit lens that his photographer missed with her 3K$ nikon and nice glass that she even said "That is a great photo"

Learn about different aperture settings and how they affect "depth of field". Shoot in RAW and use an image editing program to adjust levels, clarity, sharpness etc.

I'd recommend the Canon 15-85mm. It's a fantastic lens and great at every focal length. You get a very wide 15mm and quite useful 85mm on long end.

I couldn't find a dedicated XSi thread, though one might well exist.

I would also vote for the 15-85 because of its range and the excellent image quality it can produce.

Saying this, I realize lens selection is often personal and subjective and I have had good success with my 15-85.
