Aces, the 70D's sensor is a bit bigger...20% maybe, someone will quote exactly how much bigger; but that difference might have made for an even larger G1X platform. I think it's big enough as is :) As is I'm just thankful for the upgraded lens. The ISO profile of the Mk I was super, with the advancement in processor that should only get better, couple that with the F2 speed and walla a low light machine. It might even give my 6D a run for some money.

Funny, I sold my g1x, missed it, and just bought a used one for a price I don't even want to tell you with 230clicks, the mkii looks great, but no way I am spending $799 for it. I will wait a year, use the the mki until the prices come down to reality.l

Smart move.
Wait for reviews from various websites, and also more importantly from users.
Especially people who have used the original G1x.;)
I bought my G1x used, no regrets, and if a used G1x II comes up in the future, I will pick one up based upon the consensus as stated above.:D

Pre-ordered from B&H. I have faith that this'll be one helluva great upgrade to the fantastic G1X that I currently have.

The G1X II is one hell of a camera. I'm picking it up but the price is too much for me. I'll wait for rebate or sale. I'm sure there will be some deals after release.

Well I certainly don't plan on ridding of the Mk 1....first part of this vid was done with one, the timelapse Moonscape and Venus rising:

Won't be able to do that with a Mk II (well not just yet :)

The digital extender in the G1X has impressed me...maybe because of the low noise character found in the Mk 1; has anyone read/confirmed that this will still be in the Mk II ?.

I am interested in this feature too as it makes the camera much more versatile to me. On the canon japan site there is some info that looks to confirm that the digital teleconverter feature will be in the g1x II. See here (google translated):

Does a digital extender do anything different in these cameras that cropping in post wouldn't do (other than convenience e.g. if send out pic immediately via wifi etc.)?

I think a digital extender can allow in certain circumstances shooting at an advantageous aperture, that is reaching a longer focal length at a lower aperture than can be had without.

But is it any different than cropping the same pic later (and if so how)?

I really don't see anything useful in a digital extender ... what can you do with a digital extender that you can't do by simply zooming in the picture you want and cropping it PP. Most likely you would be able to do a much better job as the chances are that your home PC or your laptop, has dramatically more processing capabilities than what is available in camera. I always thought that digital zoom or extender was a gimmick.

Canon probably added it because Sony had their "Clearzoom" in the RX100 that gives it 200mm with fancy software interpolation. Marketing always wants to be able to match specs on a brochure.

All it does is crop in camera and then use a software resize to output at same file megapixels as your other photos. I think it only has negatives vs software. Cropping later in software lets you fine tune the crop, framing, and decide whether you want it "up-sized" with software interpolation or not. Usually I wouldn't.

I like the digital tele concept. I have more fun composing & framing when taking a photo than I do in post processing. That's the enjoyable part of photography for me. I also like jpeg and don't shoot raw. :-). I know, I know - pure craziness!!

They must put it in there because there are people that use it! I think a lot of us on this forum forget that not everyone is a camera nerd!

I liked Panasonic's implementation where it gives you just the cropped image and not an image that has been somewhat poorly upsized to the cameras full resolution. Sharp 4MP beats a soft and grainy 12MP and it's not like there is more detail that what was cropped.
