G1X Mark II

Anyone else notice the NFC logo under the wifi logo? I wonder why they would add NFC? I don't see how it's useful.

Ah, the above Best Buy pages no longer work!

debating on stepping down from a dslr. now that my kids are getting more mobile, I am less and less likely to tote all my gear. maybe this will sway me...who knows.

Man, you gotta try a little harder. 1KIND was talking about the EVF, not the camera. Meanwhile, you're linking an old article about the original G1X.

But you did get the price right at $800, if the now pulled Best Buy page is to be believed.

Looks like they dealt with the horrible minimal focus distance of the original G1x. My other complaints were really slow zooming, slow focusing, and the nuisance of focus during video recording. The ring helps take care of the zoom issue hopefully, but Canon needs to add the face recognition and other smart auto-focusing function on video.

I am impressed.
Do I care about the external viewfinder, no, wouldn't bother, I never use the optical one on the G1x original. The Lcd is a great compromise if it cuts down on the size, I suppose.
Am I going to go out and pay $800, no.
However, I would never have paid that much for my original G1x, which I still have. I just bought one in great shape used for a great price.
The best thing to do is let the dust settle, check the reviews, and get the opinion of the early adopters.
The other board that shall not be named is on fire with thread after thread about this camera, and it's been amusing reading all the stuff there.

It has 5cm/2inch macro. Not bad at all I would say.
The grip is optional??

transfer images to tablet or phone for sharing while travel. Seems pretty useful.

This has a 24-120mm lens with a f2-4 aperture and it's compact. It's the price of a rebel with a 30-90mm equivalent f3.5-5.6 zoom.

It's cheap for what you are getting. Heck, I paid almost $700 for a 15-85 which has about the same zoom range as this, but a stop slower aperture.
