So ...Im in the market for my grail 1DX new. The going rate is $6700 however there are retailers offering for $5500 here in the US. Are there any legit Cannon retailers offering discount prices?
What should I beware of...I am not naive and will only buy from a US based retailer. Any advise?

Price checks here - do your homework, and verify the vendor ... but this site has prices each day.

A Canon Authorized Dealer will stick to Canon's approved pricing most of the time...technically an item purchased from another source is not covered by Canon's Warranty. I would be really careful of an item discounted that steeply.

I purchased mine on eBay through Merkle Camera (Canadian authorized dealer) for $5850 BNIB. You may want to check them out and watch their auctions; could be another in the future. I actually lost the auction and they offered me a second chance offer :)

I'd suggest you read the reviews on 'get it digital' before you do anything with it ... and anyone else in the area ... seems a few shops along that skyline need some watchers.

According to reviews - lots of bait and switch, and expensive items not included.

I treated my purchase of the 1DX like anything else and played physical retailers off against each other here in Australia. I paid AU$5200 brand new with local warranty.

If you've got a few camera stores in your area walk in and let them know you're ready to buy today from whoever gives the best price. If someones hungry for a sale you might get a bargain.
