With extenders like the EF 1.4X III, does the angle of view change, or just the focal length? If I use it with a 24mm, will I have a 'real' 33.6mm in all regards, or only in terms of 'crop'?

TIA

A canon TC wont fit your 24mm - it has a protruding front element which fits into the recessed rear area of the 70-200 and other long lenses.

Talking theoretically though, yes it increases the focal length.
Increasing the focal length changes the field of view
If you coukd mount it to a 24mm lens, you would be left with a 33mm lens (thats one stop slower than the original 24mm)

Hmm, that's right: it'll be slower.

My problem is that I need a 35mm, but the funds I was expecting will have to be used in something else. So I was thinking if I could buy that extender (which would suit my 70-200 nicely ;)) and use it with my 24mm TS-E.

Heya,

With that equipment, I would probably not want to introduce an extender.

But if you're truly that desperate to extend your 24mm, the Kenko PRO 300 1.4 will work with almost any focal length really, unlike Canon's. Sure it's meant for slightly longer focal length, but it will work none the less.

But then again, why add a teleconverter, at $200~400, when you can just get a simple 35mm F2 (the old EF by Canon) or 35mm F1.4 lens (Samyang/Rokinon) for that much until funds allow for the level of glass you're used to having?

Very best,

Wow! "Anent"! You don't see that word much these days, especially outside of Scotland. Nice!
That makes up for at least twenty uses of the non-word "lense", with a few "aperatures" thrown in for good measure.

Good info. Ah well, I'll just wait till I have money for the Zeiss lens, then. I don't think spending twice is a good idea.

Thanks all. :)
