Hi All,

this lens gets one of the most consistant good review reports on the net. I never even saw one other than on reviews. There seems to be little about it on the forum.

Has anyone got this and what do you think about it? Thanks

^^thanks

I know the lens archive is there. It has very little activity. Hoping to get a few user opinions as its been a few months since anyone posted in these. Many own lenses but don't post specifically in the archive

Auto focus is quick and bang on. Sharp (useable) wide open. Really nice length on a crop (50mm vs 70mm means you can still back up and take small group shots). BUT, now that I'm looking at going FF, I wish I had picked up the 70-200 instead. Oh, and it's big and heavy. I love mine, just make sure you're commited to a crop.

Thanks for input. I think I am pretty much set to stay crop sensor. I have gone full circle having had a fullframe and crop. I sold all and bought some m4/3rds gear but missed the dslr set up. As you can see from signature when I bought a dslr I got nikon. But a third party Lens is just that so it should be equally good on either.

Anyone else using this lens?

Everything I have seen about this lens has been great, however there has been a guy on the local Craigslist trying to sell one for over 6 months now and his price has been more than reasonable. If you buy this lens, make sure it's for the long haul and not a stop gap until you can get something better. Demand for this lens is going to drive resale prices down.

Often over looked for the 70-200mm. I've had the non OS model since they were first released. One of the nicest zooms I've owned or used. Very compact and light.

Here is a recent thread about the 50-150 OS as well

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1358925

My thoughts, if you're on a crop camera then this lens is an amazing choice. I used to own a 70-200 (actually two. The canon f4 IS then sold that for the sigma f2.8 OS...then sold that due to loss of job) but I found 70mm a bit too long on a crop camera.

When I could afford it I picked up the 50-150 OS instead of another 70-200 and could not be happier with that decision. 50 is much more usable for my need, the lens is sharp wide open (the sigma 70-200 has to be stopped down a bit to get the same sharpness), bokeh is smooth and pleasing, AF is fast and accurate, the OS works great, and it gives close to that "full frame 70-200 FOV).

The lens is often over looked as most people opt for a 70-200 instead of the 50-150 (hell my local shop didnt even know what lens I was talking about when I asked them to order me one) but on a crop camera I feel this is a far better choice then a 70-200 unless you absolutely need 151-200mm (the extra 20mm on the wide end is more useful to me then the 50mm on the tele end)

I need to get out and shoot more (I lothe winter and hardly get out to do anything!) but hopefully after this weekend I'll have somemore photos to post in the very weak photo thread for this lens (I'm bad with posting in those threads to begin with)

The only down side to this lens is its huge compaired to the two older 50-150 (both did not have OS) but as its the same size as a 70-200 f2.8 I find it to be normal.

Thanks. I am going to stop looking at 70-200 lenses. It will be the 50-150mm. Now just to get that money together.

Have any of the owners here tried this lens with a TC (either 1.4x or 2.0x)

I'm considering this as a partial replacement for the 70-300L...the longer end being covered by the new Tamron 150-600mm but it would be nice to be able to use a TC if the Tamron's not in the bag.

Works quite well with my Tamron SP 1.4x TC (white model)..

Fairly heavy crop with the 50-150:
