Hi Mantra

1: Download the printer driver for the stylus pro 9800 and install it. It will load the Epsom Paper ICC files to the appropriate place (windows/system 32/spool/drivers/colour). You can then remove the printer but the ICC files will remain. You can then soft-proof using the appropriate ICC file.

That will be as close as you can get without obtaining your printers ICC files (which may be the OEM ones from Epsom or one that they may have created themselves)

2: Sorry, I'm not sure what you are asking.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark
thanks for the answer

1)

Download the printer driver for the stylus pro 9800 and install it.

but this could mess up my system , could not?
i mean i have my printer drivers installed

2)

Sorry, I'm not sure what you are asking.

the lab prints are different , they don't look like what i see in my eizo (calibrated) and with proof enabled , and they don't like my photos printed with my epson 3880

they told me to make some adjustaments in photoshop to make the lab print match with my epson 3880 and after save the profile

thanks

You can get the profile on the Epson site without the driver.

You can have multiple printer drivers without messing up your system. What do people with two printers do?

You can use a curve layer adjustment in PS to get a match with a test print and then save the curve as a .crv file.

Installing the 9800 driver wont have any effect on your driver for the 3880. It will simply add the 9800 to the printer list and provide the ICC files for it. Un-installing the driver will get the printer off the list but will still leave the ICC files.

These are what you soft-proof to when you are sending out to the print service unless they provide you with their own ICC file to use.

What they are telling you doesn't make sence. Possibly, they may be suggesting that you set up an "action" or "pre-set" that you could apply to your files to make them look like the prints from the 3880 but that is not the correct path to take.

If your monitor is calibrated & profiled correctly and the prints you are getting out of the 3880 utilizing the correct profiles, ink and paper set-up, are a good match for your monitor, it appears that you seem to have your colour management workflow correct.

If the prints you get back from the 9800 are quite different to what you are expecting, you need to check to see if you have soft-proofed correctly (which, if you didn't have the ICC profile, you could not have) or the other print service is doing some automatic corrections &/or colour space conversions inappropriately.

Your print service should be able to provide you the ICC file, they should also advise you what colour space they prefer, while file type they prefer and advise if they do any auto-corrections. You should request that auto corrections be not applied so that they do not alter the image file you have provided and soft-proofed for.

The ICC file is a standard format, the operating system should be irrelevant.

The whole point of calibration and profiling is to obtain a standard as close as possible across a whole range of imaging devices i.e cameras, monitors, printers, scanners etc.

While it is acceptable to perform minor tweaks to files going to outside suppliers, they should be pretty close.

The answer to a couple of questions should help.
1: When you calibrated/profiled your monitor, what luminocity did you end up with, gamma setting did you use and what did you end up with.

2: How did you soft-proof the file that came back either too dark or too light without the correct ICC file?

3: What viewing conditions are you viewing the print in. Prints need to be viewed in brighter conditions that what you would normally have your monitor in. Good daylight but without direct sun is preferred.

For the Epson printer/paper combination you may want to just install the driver (the Epson site should have it) -- did you try that to see if you can softproof using the Epson built-in paper profiles?

hi

in a forum i found

Advice from epson if PLPP(260) not available use Premium Glossy Photo Paper (250) or Premium Glossy Photopaper. Do not select Premium Luster Photo Paper (250) or Premium Luster Photopaper. This advice is in the instruction sheet accompanying the 16" roll of PLPP(260) I am using. correct profiles are on my 4880 disk and would be available from epson.

for example can you find the Epson Premium Semimatte profile for [FONT=Arial][FONT=Arial]stylus pro 9800 ?

I got it from the printer driver that I downloaded. It is called:

Pro9800 7800PSmPP250 (this is for what I assume is a 250gm weighted paper)

There are a couple of variants which I assume are for lighter papers, you would need to check with your printer which weight paper they are using.

Have a look here:
https://files.support.epson.com …o78_/pro78_rf/trble_2.htm (external link)

This is a table of papers with various ICC files associated with them.

If you still cannot get hold of the ICC file, PM me with your email address & I will send it to you. It is 780kB, so, not that big of a file.
