So my tax return is on it's way. I am looking to buy a new 20d. I currently have the 10d, but looking for a new camera. Any suggestions on a good place to purchase one at a good price? One small caviat . . . I am currently stationed overseas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have even thought about buying one out in town (Okinawa, Japan), but I am very concerned about the warranty issues.

If I was in your situation I'd really try and wait a month until you see what Canon is coming out with to replace the 20D in late Feb/early March. Then you might change your mind.

You'll only need to wait 2 weeks, not a month before the announcements.

After I posted this I saw the merged threads on this subject. I believe that is my best route at this point. Thanks for the comments, they are much appreciated.

The 20d is a good camera. If you want it, get it. You could wait for another camera to maybe be released, but that won't make the 20d any less of a camera.

If you choose to get it, I'd get it >here< (external link)

I would reccomend going to kakaku.com have a japanese friend translate it for you. I bought my Kiss N (rebel XT) for 80,000Y about $700USD with Kit lens (which was USM BTW! ) usually here in japan, they get some better kit lens...I dont know why though. check out that site, should help you out! Good Luck!

Oh, my camera from kakaku.com came with a international warranty! I plan on staying in japan, but Im covered ANYWHERE!

I agree. Since you already have a 10D, no harm to wait a couple more weeks and see what the 20D successor is.

The way I see it now, if I wait a few weeks, I put myself in a win/win situation. One of two things will happen. First, Canon will release the 20d replacement. Then I will be able to buy either the new camera, or a 20d at a reduced price. The second possibility is that they will not release the new camera and I will buy the 20d as planned and the world will again be great. Either way, I win!

Ha I am in the same exact boat, can't wait to upgrade from my 300D. I am also considering a Canon 100-400 to fill the void in a long reach glass.

Hoping prices on the 20D will drop a little more in a month or two.

I have the 10D from when it first came out. I've been happy with with until I decided at Christmas to upgrade to the 20D. I shoot weddings and events, so the idea of a backup was appealing to me. I knew in the back of my mind that a new camera would be coming out this year from Canon, but I didn't care. I liked the 20D for what it can give me and the rebates were great. So, I have the 20D now and I love it. I'm going to invest in glass and a new flash next. It is always wise to think about it for a few weeks and see what's new and then decide. The price of the 20D may go down enough, you still may want it. Good luck anyway. I'm getting a nice tax refund as well. :) Great stuff!
