Been to Spain three times (I'm jealous, John from PA!). Only the last time did I have a digital camera. 7D and Sigma 17-70 OS. Great combination and, while I would have liked to have something longer for detail shots, especially in churches, I never really missed anything by having only the one camera and lens. I have a Canon 50 f/1.8 and brought that but never used it.

So my recommendation would be to bring just the 7D and 17-85. I would not bring the flash or tripod, but a gorilla pod, assuming it can handle that camera/lens combination, might be worth carrying.

Tim

Seriously, if you do bring the 7d, I would look into a 15-85.....I had a 17-85, great range but a very soft lens. As I said before, I have left the dslr home on last few trips and brought a g1x, or my current rx100, got great pictures and enjoyed my vacation.

Absolutely not! Go to both, rotate the Scottish Highlands and our national parks into the mix as well.

So many places, so little time...

And if you have a waterproof camera why not visit England...

Done that as well, but a dryer day. Brutal what is going on. I've hiked many of the areas now being shown under water.

He's talking about Spain not Mexico! I was in Spain for 4 weeks this summer, traveling through Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Toledo, and Pamplona (for the San Fermin Festival). I drank the water from the street faucets and ice cubes with no issues.

I took my 5D3, 17-40, and 70-200. It was a hefty kit but was perfect for my travel shooting style. I'd definitely recommend you bring the 70-300 and rent a 10-22. You'll definitely want a super-wide angle, though I now prefer 24mm as my widest lens.

I'm with you on this Staszek, my wife and I have never worried about drinking the water and we have traveled in virtually every major area of Spain, including both the Balerics. And the same applies to Portugal I might add.

I am thinking about a width prime.. I don't use my 16-35mm under 24 as there is to much distortion..

If I were to go again, I would definitely rent (or buy a used lens and sell it after the trip) 17 TSE instead of the 16-35.

I certainly wouldn't take all that equipment - why not just take what you'd use on a walkabout in your home state.

Also, I wouldn't want to cart a tripod around and you might consider whether you're really likely to need your flash.
