I'm wondering if there is an alternative to OCF Gear 32' ETTL Cords? I would love to order one of these, but shipping to Canada appears to be cost prohibitive ($40-$51 USD for USPS?). Stomaching $65 for the cord isn't a problem. The shipping fees are a problem for me.

I'd love to learn about alternatives. Thx. :)

What is your application? I cant think of many where the radio frequency wireless options aren't a better option than a cord. The YN622c are roughly $75 a pair on amazon.

I'll be doing a night photography workshop at the end of March. We've been instructed to bring "large and small" flashes. I'm planning on bringing all of my flashes: my 600rf, 430ex ii, and my two itty bitty Optex slaves.

The 600 can control everything optically, providing it has the line of sight required. I'm thinking I might want to get the 600 off of the camera to improve the line of sight to the other flashes. Or, I might just want to move the 600 off camera for better positioning of the light, while still being able to control everything else optically.

I could purchase the ST-E3-RT, and use the 600 off camera. But, I'd lose the use of the 430, and maybe the little Optex slaves. I haven't tested those with the 600 yet, but I think they might still work.

After mulling it over for a little while (and only having one 430ex ii), I decided to go with the 600RF for radio control instead of one of the other systems. The ST-E3-RT is on my wish list, and I will be picking up at least one more 600RF. I just really don't want to make that investment right now, however.

Could I use a pair of YN622c to RF control the 600 off camera, and then control the 430 optically? From what I've read, that can't be done with the ST-E3-RT.

No, once you use the YN622 it becomes the master. None of the remote flashes would have the ability to master. If you still want a long cord, look at www.flashzebra.com (external link) Lon (a member here) carries them and supports his products. Not sure about shipping issues though.

Thanks! I've just ordered from Lon. $20 for shipping (USPS) to Alberta, for a 24' cord. That is much better, but it is still higher than I was expecting. I think USPS's rates must have gone up.

Long Off Shoe cords are just an accident waiting to happen and using them at night just increased your chances 4 fold. I have a couple super long OS cords I bought from Lon and Paramount back in the day when using Canons Wireless Optical system gave you few choices. Once Radio Popper introduced their PX system my cords have stayed tucked away and I have kept them around just to remind me of how foolish an idea it is to use cords rather than wireless triggers. Over the years I have had a few incidents of people and myself tripping over the cords that luckily resulted in only minor damages. Pulling down a light as well as a camera with a lens is not a risk I wish to expose myself too anymore. Good luck!

Long OCF cords were never meant to be a replacement of OCF triggers. They can come in very handy for quick stuff and for new people that just want to get the flash off the axis while learning. They are a cheap alternative to triggers for 1 light off camera....thats it.

The Pixel componor was and is by far the best ocf flash cord, as it has the unique ability to use Cat Ethernet cable to extend and shorten at will. All others are fixed length. Easy and very cheap to get ultra long lengths or for breakages.

But even the best OCF cable is no match for radio. I would never want to use a cable again.
