Ringling Bros has two unit trains (red and blue) that transport all their animals, equipment and crews across the country to wherever the show is located for that week.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info Marshall. ;)

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

Look for one of the Ringling trains in the LA area next month. They have shows at Staples Center.

Barry, please tell me the waves in the track are just optical distotions because of heat waves. Nice clear shot BTW.

Cool photo Bruce, even if it is film ;). That train isn't unusual though. Ringling Bros has two unit trains (red and blue) that transport all their animals, equipment and crews across the country to wherever the show is located for that week.

Also, the James E Strates shows uses a train to take carnival equipment from town to town.. I saw them in Gaithersburg, MD during the fair in Aug a few years back.. It looks like there will be in Middletown, NY starting the 18th of July

Juipter. Promontory Summit, Utah. This replica engine was built to within 1/4 inch of original specifications. For the history buffs, Promontory Summit was where the Golden Spike was driven, commorating the joining of the Union Pacific RR from the west and the Central Pacific from the east.

Camera details: XTi, F8.0, 55mm, forgotten the shutter speed at the moment :o.

Bob

Actually, those are the imperfections of the tracks being magnified by zooming in.

Click the image below for a better example. Taken at 400 mm, this section of track is actually long enough to hold a locomotive and about five rail cars.
