Please do not be too hard on me. I do not know the correct terminology to use here. I would appreciate some help and correction where needed.

There is a section of 2 tracks (siding?) between 2 towns that occasionally I see the 'work' related equipment sitting that will do work to repair the track. There are 2 sections of track that were both full of the 'work cars' I am guessing with perhaps a total of 30-40 cars beside 2 more track that the trains going thru will use. This weekend I saw more equipment than I have ever seen before and wanted to take some pictures to share. There was one freight passing on the back side as I took these photos.

I believe all this equipment is used to lay down new track or repair existing track, but that seems like a lot of equipment for my area!

I wish it were easier to see all of the equipment in my photos.....

That is some very interesting equipment to see in action.

I used to work for Norfolk Southern and even I am not sure exactly what each particular piece does.

Some of those units are useless by themselves and must work in sequence with the units ahead and behind.

A very interesting DVD movie that I own and I highly recommend as good viewing is Pentrex Video's "Workin' on the Railroad"; it shows a lot of that equipment in action and is well worth having as it expels a lot of the mystery as to what all those pieces of equipment do.

If you can find some old country road that parallels the track where this equipment is working, it would well be worth your time to watch it in action.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Thank you for your kind comments :-)

I just now ordered the DVD you mentioned!

All that equipment is now gone. It was there only a couple of short days.
