Oh how neat! I have always wished there were viewing towers in Elkhart, but alas there are none. When they built the yard in the 50's (or whenever) they apparently did not think there would be an interest in the public viewing the yard. Charles

A 12,000' train broke down 25 kms after leaving the yard. In all it took a few hours to get the train moved to the siding where they could drop the broken boxcar, reconnect the train, sort out additional brake problems, figure out how to maneuver all the trains around each other, and get on their way. I took some pictures of the damage and repairs. Melody
