Thanks i notice that in all my train shots. The mirage effect from the heat in guessing

I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather.
Not screaming, terrified, like his passengers.

A couple from todays trip to the railroad museum in Elkhart. Not much selection of trains, sadly. So I just took a couple hundred shots and wasn't happy with any of them. Till I started moving sliders to the extreme ends in LR!

I know what you mean... sadly the museum is run by the city, and the city does not have the $$$ to invest in the museum.
Much of the stock there is in very sad shape.

Yea it really is. I dont know of another museum anywhere remotely close. Maybe you know why they have those giant unsightly panels on front of the steam engine. They are so gaudy and ugly. It really detracts from the magestic nature of said engine. Pretty sure thats not the way it was originally built. Like giant horse blinders.

Do you mean the smoke deflectors?
Here in the UK they even had the audacity to put them on the "Flying Scotsman"

You know when I first looked at your picture of 3001 I thought it was different.... I just now went back and found my pics from the last time I visited there... this was November 10, 2010. No I have no idea why they changed the look of 3001. I do NOT like the new look at all!

nor do I. It's god awful ugly now. I've seen pictures without them, and it looks awesome! Also it's all painted solid black now. No character to it. Ah well, I have no need to ever go back. Nice shot btw! I have a similar shot from the other side of the engine, but I can't use it because of those stupid giant blinders!

While I was at the museum, I hung out and waited on a few trains to pass by. This was one of the better shots.

That's interesting. I always liked the deflectors.

Time for some classic British Steam, Scots Guardsman whistling through Twford yesterday, shame he had the regulator closed!
