Okay, this is certainly not my best, but it is actually one of my favorites. It was the first shot I ever took with an L lens. I had just been to the camera store and borrowed a used 400 f/5.6L that I was considering buying. I went to my favorite spot, and this group of helpers was heading east to pick up a westbound train in Thousand Palms.

This is actually a scan from a slide taken a good few years ago when I worked in Zimbabwe. At least it was taken with a Canon Camera (an A1).

That's called a Beyer-Garrett, and they ran a lot of them in Africa. I don't know why the design didn't catch on in the US since it was a great way to get the locomotive's weight over the driving wheels.
