In some ways, perhaps. I was told by a European that our freight is actually quite advanced. They apparently can't do 2 containers on a car, as we sometimes do here nor transport something like 737 fuselages (as I was told, I take the information as hearsay).

Economically, I suspect Boston to Wash DC is the only area in the US with the population density and distance to make it viable, and we have the ACELA there. I used it once and it was nice (Baltimore to Philadelphia). Decent WiFi, nice view from the windows too.

having visited europe quite a few times since marrying a lovely Danish girl, a lot of the differences between europe and the states are economic...

the cost of car ownership in Denmark alone is astronomical. if you look at the income for the average person (even with all of the government handouts) they often just can not afford a car. the taxes on every car is close to 200%. gasoline (the last time i bought in Denmark) was close to $7 a gallon. insurance i never had exposure to...

Couldn't adjust camera settings for second image. Was a NJ Transit equipment move from Morrisville, PA to the maintenance complex in Kearny, NJ. Was at track speed for 100mph.
