Just another normal regular kind of day, nothing much happening -- except for Union Pacific #4014 "Big Boy" just happens to pass 350 feet away from my house.

Awesome sight.
Certainly warm the heart of lovers of that era of locomotion
Curious how much noise they make on your tracks.
I was working beside a rail here and a train with 3 engines and probably 350 metres of wagons and it was thunderous.
Pity the poor residents living there at 3 am when it passes through.

The noise from the steam was actually quiet, and you would think that Big Boy's whistle would be louder than most, but that wasn't the case. Seemed about as loud as all the rest from that era. Since I live right next to the tracks, I'm used to much worse (middle of the night they must turn up the volume).

That's pretty quiet.
The carriages in that video make little noise.
Of the one I saw the other day the whole train just roared as it slunk past.
May have been atmospherics as it was beside the sea, dead calm after a huge storm!?

Thanks! My pleasure. I traveled west this morning to see the same engine that was situated for viewing for three days and came back with some awesome shots. Still a bit lagged on sleep and editing. Then another go this next Tuesday when it takes off for Iowa and other points west. I'll try getting more video and stills from a secret bridge (that will probably have 150 people on it). This is the biggest train event in the Midwest USA in twenty or more years.

That is a Ciitrail unit or CREX. They are a locomotive leasing company and yes, they are a subsidiary of Citibank. Better view of one:
