Last week I drove around and saw this Sperry car sitting on the tracks where many times I see other cars sitting.

I do not know what the Sperry car is used for, but I do know there are many people here that do know. My father would also have known sice he worked on the New York Central rails then retired from Penn-Central in 1975

Your father must of been through the famous Horse Shoe Bend in Penn many many times then. That was a highlight for me going to visit my grandparents in the summer as a young boy.

99% of the time my father went from Elkhart, IN to various locations around Chicago mostly on freight trains, riding in a caboose. Cabooses were still in use when he retired in 1975. He did start railroading when steam engines were in use. I do have a passenger uniform of his that he wore a few times. He had New York Central buttons, and Penn-Central buttons. I know he never wore the uniform after Penn-Central was started. I wish now I could ask him about the times he wore the uniform.

A little TLC might be in order here.

While it is lower than Donner Pass to the north, the Feather river route still rises to 4,872 feet (1,485 meters roughly) so it does require robust horsepower.

Wow, bet there is some nice scenery on that route.

That looks like it could be fire damage. I wonder if they hit something at a crossing that burned?

Ahh, the infamous caboose, haven't seen them much if any anymore. We have a freight train that runs daily through the small towns along the coast here in Florida. How would one get a hold of a schedule to catch them for a few snaps? I am not sure the name of the train line, but I think its Southern something. Amtrack also runs here. How would I find the tracks they run on ? I am going to speak to Mr Google see what he can tell me.

Wow, bet there is some nice scenery on that route.

It is phenomenally beautiful. Back in my motorbike days it was a favorite ride on the adjacent California Hwy 70.

The damage above the windshields could very possibly be hail storm damage. There is a dent on the lower left that definitely looks like it hit something.
