Last week I drove around and saw this Sperry car sitting on the tracks where many times I see other cars sitting.
I do not know what the Sperry car is used for, but I do know there are many people here that do know. My father would also have known sice he worked on the New York Central rails then retired from Penn-Central in 1975
Your father must of been through the famous Horse Shoe Bend in Penn many many times then. That was a highlight for me going to visit my grandparents in the summer as a young boy.
99% of the time my father went from Elkhart, IN to various locations around Chicago mostly on freight trains, riding in a caboose. Cabooses were still in use when he retired in 1975. He did start railroading when steam engines were in use. I do have a passenger uniform of his that he wore a few times. He had New York Central buttons, and Penn-Central buttons. I know he never wore the uniform after Penn-Central was started. I wish now I could ask him about the times he wore the uniform.
