Colombo to Galle railway line
15th February, 2021

The wind and sea state combined to give atypically large breakers crashing in on the coast for most of yesterday afternoon and evening. Although spectacular to watch - especially if timed with a passing train - I paused to remember the world's worst railway disaster in terms of fatalities a few miles further down the same track when the Tsunami made landfall on 26th December, 2004. There's a Wikipedia page, here (external link).

And a couple more - though sadly the waves didn't time nicely to give me the backdrop I wanted with the sunset image.

This bridge was built in 1907, same year as Oklahoma Statehood. I go by it every chance I get hoping to catch a train coming through. Luck finally came through. Zoom in and Scroll around on the bridge, you’ll see a lot of cracks. Kinda scary to drive over it.

You were well rewarded.
Whilst those cracks look scary I'd be worried if down in the abutments or on the arch.
It looks like they'd pour the deck then add the walls along side after. The arched deck is the strength of the bridge
I'd suggest you could safely (for bridge integrity) take all that superstructure off and it'd be fine. Except for health and safety of users. :-P

NS (Dutch Railways) Bombardier TRAXX 186033 pushing an Intercity train between Tilburg and Breda. These trains run in sandwich mode, with a TRAXX at both ends, both locos providing traction.

Kodak Brownie pictures, TMax 100, developed in Caffenol.

It's really easy to get camera shake with these cameras. The second photo is of a long line of engines in OKC. I used three different cameras on this, never got the results I wanted. If it weren't for camera shake, this would have been the best.

Here's a couple from New Zealand in 2017. The railway was built originally by a Potter to transport clay from the hill side to his workshop. Now a tourist attraction with some really quirky station names. The highest Station is called "Eyeful Tower"
