Strasburg RR's No 475, Baldwin built (1906) 2-8-0 Consolidation pulls into Strasburg Station with the 2PM local.

N&W 611 J, 4-8-4, changes ends of our train at Paradise. The two tracks in the background are Amtrak's mainline running from Philadelphia to Harrisburg PA. While the 611 was recoupled, an Amtrak commuter train slammed thru doing 110MPH, the speed limit at Leaman Junction, as it is known. Interesting contrast of eras.

Strasburg was running two trains that day, with the train returning from Paradise waiting on a siding at Groff's Grove while the outbound train from Strasburg passed on the mainline. Since they have no way of turning the locomotives at Paradise, they run backwards on the outbound journey and frontwards on the return.

I'm always amazed at the paint jobs on these trains. They look like a car on the showroom floor. Trains in the States are lucky to have any paint on them at all and most cars are covered in graffiti.
